Celebrate St. Patrick's Day With Silver Bullion!

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day With Silver Bullion!

After Valentine’s Day, usually people's first thoughts are to skip right to Easter. However, there is a holiday in the middle that people often forget about until right before it occurs. But if we mention party beads, green beer, parades, and four-leaf clovers, would it jog your memory?

St. Patrick’s Day has been celebrated or honored since the ninth and tenth centuries. The very first parade took place in 1762 in the United States when Irish soldiers serving in the English military marched through the streets of New York City with their native music. At the time, the parade was said to have helped the soldiers reconnect with their Irish roots. Since then, celebrations have taken place all over the...read more

U.S. Mint Releases Details About 2021 Morgan & Peace $1 Silver Coins

U.S. Mint Releases Details About 2021 Morgan & Peace $1 Silver Coins

If you did not know already, there has been active legislation in the past two years pursuing some sort of commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the transition from the Morgan Silver Dollar to the Peace Dollar. The United States Mint has been rather mute on the topic until now as they have released details gathered from a Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) that was held on January 19, 2021.

The introduction of legislation was brought forth in 2019 but it was not until an updated push for legislation presented in mid-March of 2020 that the concept took a deeper hold. While the idea for the dollar coins to be produced commemorating the 100th anniversary...read more

100 Greatest U.S. Coins Series: 1872 Amazonian Gold Pattern Set

William Barber is a name that you most likely have heard before, but it may not be as recognizable as his son, Charles Barber. Despite your familiarity with either man, they both have quite the presence in United States coinage and have been Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. While Charles Barber gained his notoriety with Barber coinage (even though they were short lived), William Barber made a name for himself when it came to the production of pattern coins. Some of those coins have made it on a prestigious list.

Next in our series exploring Whitman Publishing’s 100 Greatest United States Coins fourth edition publication, we take a look at a top 20 pick that sets itself apart from a number of rarities within United States coinage. With author Jeff Garrett...read more

100 Greatest American Currency Notes Series: Electricity Presenting Light To the World $5 "Educational Note," Series 1896

100 Greatest American Currency Notes Series: Electricity Presenting Light To the World $5 "Educational Note," Series 1896

While we are very early on in our dissection of Whitman Publishing’s 100 Greatest American Currency Notes publication, we have yet to discuss a top five or even a top ten entry. It is hard to imagine what the decision-making process was curating this list considering the astronomical amount of currency notes out there. However, authors Q. David Bowers and David M. Sundman were able to do so for this first and perhaps only edition of the series.

This top five note derives from a desire to create detailed and artistic motifs on early denomination notes. While a number of designs were created for nearly ten different denominations, only three were ever produced and these were deemed ‘Educational Notes.’ The note from this entry will be one of those three and is one of the very...read more

World Cancer Day: Spreading Awareness Through Silver

The month of February features a few days that we take note of. Of course, there is Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day. Then there is Ash Wednesday and the lesser-known National Tooth Fairy Day. But every February 4th, there is a day that we should all mark in our calendars and become more active in recognizing. It’s a global campaign that understands the challenges ALL human beings face together and that is cancer.

Everyone knows someone or of someone that has gone through cancer. Whether fought and won or fought and lost, cancer affects every corner of this globe and will continue to do so. Silver of the Month: Tooth Fairy 1oz .999 Silver Medallion

Silver of the Month: Tooth Fairy 1oz .999 Silver Medallion

It is not often that you come across a national holiday that is celebrated twice a year. In fact, it is not often that a holiday that is not well known is celebrated that much and people still are surprised by its existence. So what holiday are we talking about? National Tooth Fairy Day!

Celebrated on both August 22nd and February 28th, the day was created to honor the creation of the dentist’s helper and bring awareness to the importance of good dental hygiene. Back in the early 1920s, fairies were used in all sorts of ways to encourage kids to remember to take care of themselves from eating their vegetables to taking good care of their teeth. While the tooth fairy has brought about a monetary value on losing one’s teeth as a young child in today’s society, it is important to note that her presence...read more
