U.S. Mint Set To Release 2020 Connecticut Reverse Proof $1 Coin

The United States Mint recently unveiled the 2020 designs for the next four in the American Innovation $1 Coin program to be released. The designs honor innovators and innovations from the great states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, and South Carolina. The first American Innovation $1 coin to be released this year will feature Connecticut and be released in a Reverse Proof finish.

Connecticut’s design on the reverse of the coin features the Gerber Variable Scale. The scale is being depicted in use, increasing a geometric shape by 200 percent which also happens to be simulating the shape of the State of Connecticut itself. CCAC Recommends McAuliffe Silver Dollar Design For 2021

There were many topics of discussion on the table for the June 23rd Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee meeting. One of those design discussions was about a silver dollar commemorative being produced in 2021. The results and design favored by the CCAC mirror the same ones recommended by the Commission of Fine Arts on June 18th to Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin. The design itself features the late astronaut Christa McAuliffe.

McAuliffe, a high school teacher from New Hampshire, was one of six other United States astronauts that were killed in the takeoff of the space shuttle Challenger on January 28th, 1986. 2020 American Innovation Dollar Designs Released By U.S. Mint

The year 2020 has been interesting, to say the least. With it came many United States Mint product delays, including the next four designs in the American Innovation $1 Coin program that officially launched in 2018 with an introductory coin and was followed up by the first four designs in 2019. The multi-year series was announced in 2018 and created with the intent to honor innovation and innovators with $1 coins from each State, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Last year’s designs featured Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
