The one-ounce American Silver Eagle bullion coin has a face value of one dollar. The obverse depicts Adolph A. Weinman's Liberty Walking design used on the half dollar from 1916 through 1947. His initials are on the hem of the gown. The reverse design is a rendition of a heraldic eagle by John Mercanti.
Originally produced at the Philadelphia Mint, American Silver Eagles have been struck at the West Point Mint since 2000 and 2001; Burnished coins were added in 2006, with a W mintmark. Since 2012, bullion coins have also been struck at San Francisco; they lack a mintmark that would distinguish which facility produced them. No Proof American Silver Eagles were made in 2009.
