When Haraldsson’s father died, he killed his half-brothers to gain complete control of Norway. One legend recounts that his surviving younger brother, Hakon, challenged him for control of the kingdom, which Haraldsson gave up without a fight. His fearsome legacy even inspired the naming of the rare and mysterious Bloodaxe gemstone—a homage to his enduring legend.
