Today the United States Mint will honor the rarity that is the 1804 Silver Dollar with the fourth Best of the Mint Set beginning at 12pm EST.
Honoring America’s semiquincentennial, the Mint has put together a five-set series paying homage to United States coinage. The sets will feature a reissued gold coin along with companion silver medals depicting modern designs and reflecting the meaning of their gold counterparts.
This fourth release in the series will honor the elusive 1804 Silver Dollar. The obverse of the gold coin will feature Liberty facing right with her hair bound by a ribbon. Thirteen stars surround her profile in addition to the Liberty Bell privy mark with the number 250 to the right of her. LIBERTY and 1804 are inscribed as well. The reverse shows a heraldic eagle design with the United States shield on its chest. The scroll in its mouth reads E PLURIBUS UNUM as thirteen starts above it is inscribed. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is also inscribed along the outer edge. The coin is struck in 1oz of 24kt .9999 fine gold from West Point.
There is a household limit of one and a mintage limit of 15,000.
The fifth and final set it the series will honor the 1907 St. Gaudens High Relief $20 Gold Coin.
