2021-S Morgan Silver Dollar 100th Anniversary

Honor the final year of America’s original Morgan Dollar series with the 2021-S Morgan Silver Dollar 100th Anniversary. Released by the United States Mint to commemorate 100 years since the last classic Morgan Dollars were struck in 1921, this special issue revives George T. Morgan’s celebrated design for a new generation. This version was struck at the San Francisco Mint and features the distinctive “S” mint mark on the reverse.

The original Morgan Silver Dollar was introduced in 1878 and struck through 1904 before returning for one final year in 1921. Named for its designer, U.S. Mint Chief Engraver George T. Morgan, the series became closely associated with America’s westward expansion and industrial growth. The 2021 anniversary release pays tribute to that history while recreating Morgan’s classic artwork using modern U.S. Mint production standards.

The obverse features Morgan’s iconic left-facing portrait of Liberty, wearing a Phrygian-style cap adorned with agricultural elements and the word LIBERTY. E PLURIBUS UNUM appears above the portrait, while 13 stars and the date 2021 complete the design. The detailed portrait preserves the unmistakable appearance that has made the Morgan Dollar one of the most recognizable coins in American numismatics.

The reverse showcases a heraldic American eagle with outstretched wings, holding arrows and an olive branch in its talons and surrounded by a laurel wreath. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST and ONE DOLLAR accompany the design. Beneath the wreath is the important “S” mint mark, identifying this anniversary Morgan Dollar as a product of the historic San Francisco Mint.

.999 Fine Silver in Original Government Packaging

Unlike the original Morgan Dollars, which were struck in 90% silver, the 2021 anniversary edition was produced in .999 fine silver with an Uncirculated finish. The U.S. Mint created five different 2021 Morgan Dollar versions honoring the facilities associated with the historic series, including Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco, New Orleans and Carson City. The San Francisco edition was actually struck at the San Francisco Mint and bears its traditional “S” mint mark.
