SilverTowne Department Spotlight: The Coin Vault/Preferred Customer Division

Continuing to honor and celebrate our 75th anniversary year, we are weaving our way through the building from the front all the way to the back to introduce The Coin Vault and the Preferred Customer Division!

Every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday night at 7pm EST, Andy and Tyler make their way into your television screens via Dish, DirectTV, AT&T TV, Spectrum, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, and CMG! You can also stream online 24/7 on Roku, TheCoinVault.com, and YouTube, as well as Facebook from 7pm-midnight EST.

Andy – Show Host for The Coin Vault

With its impending 36th anniversary approaching in May, The Coin Vault got its start in 1988 thanks to a lot of dedication from Leon and Ruhama’s son and former majority owner, David Hendrickson.

“David’s constant push for many years for The Coin Vault to have a presence on television was really the reason we got started or that this whole thing exists,” Andy stated. “From the late 1990s to about 2007 or 2008, he was nonstop about getting airtime at what was Shop at Home. He fought for it. With the help of Robert Chambers and others, and the peaks and valleys they endured trying to get airtime whenever they could, that massive audience really responded to us. Eventually with the expansion of that audience and constantly building it up, we were able to stand on our own and bring in collectors.”

After creating its own name and bringing in audiences and collectors nationwide, The Coin Vault brought SilverTowne even more into the spotlight.

“The show’s contribution obviously has brought brand recognition to SilverTowne through the power of television,” Andy said. “However, today’s climate means that the media is changing, and we are pivoting to new avenues through both channels.”

While the companies work under one roof, their differences are quite clear.

“The Coin Vault’s focus is collector based,” Andy stated. “Limited edition product, collector product, that is what we do. The show, in addition to the website and all the sales channels, provides collector pieces to collectors. SilverTowne is more of a mass sales channel of gold, silver, and precious metals, and caters to more of an investor-based consumer. Having both types of sales channels has no doubt propelled us to where we are today.”

With a home base in Tennessee for decades, The Coin Vault finally moved home (Indiana) in 2015 with a goal of every facet of the business living under one roof.

“It was a move that was deemed necessary to be more effective and efficient as a company,” Andy said. “It was positive for our business and our customers.”

Moving forward, The Coin Vault looks to expand on its informercial push having tested the waters in 2023 with its first endeavor.

“Our general direction is aimed at getting more involved in that process and trying to adapt to a more inclusive and expanding demographic,” Andy explained. “Our customer base needs to evolve with the times, so we want to continue to come up with ways to enhance that experience. It certainly helps that SilverTowne is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and The Coin Vault will be looking at 36 years in May. That brand recognition is unparalleled.”

Tyler – Show Host for The Coin Vault

Having started his journey with The Coin Vault as a show host in August of 2015, Tyler’s knowledge of buying and selling coins predominantly with dealers and wholesalers in the past is what allowed him to transition to television so well.

“The Coin Vault is very collector driven,” Tyler said. “With SilverTowne providing mostly bullion and precious metals, the show acts as a yang to their ying. The company is very balanced in what we can offer collectors across the board.”

As a third-generation numismatist, Tyler feels as if the company, having been through its fair share of ups and downs in its 75 years, is a remarkable testament to how his family was able to endure and adapt.

“I’m extremely proud to be a part of a family business that has been around for three quarters of a century,” Tyler stated. “To be around that many years and be a part of the community, it’s incredible to think about. It’s amazing to have a mom-and-pop operation in such a small town like Winchester, Indiana, with such a specific niche and market and make it this long.”

With the show moving in the direction it is for the collector market, Tyler feels like the future is bright, especially with the help from the United States Mint.

“What the Mint has produced and released over these last few years has been an extraordinary addition to what we do,” he said. “The Morgan and Peace dollar program for sure is what makes it exciting. Those kinds of programs are what have become a staple for modern numismatics and are an almost guaranteed way of flooding the market with new collectors, which is what we want.”

Leah – Sales Manager of the Preferred Customer Division

The Coin Vault’s Preferred Customer Division moved back home in July of 2020. The in-house team has access to thousands of products we simply do not have time to show you on television. Each numismatic advisor works directly with the show hosts to bring you the first opportunity at many coins before they go to air.

“When you work with one of our representatives, you get priority access to exclusive items before they are featured on the show in addition to receiving assistance in locating rare items to enhance your collection or fill in any gaps,” Leah said. “You also gain exclusive privileges such as promotions, discounts, and the latest updates on new coin releases.”

Each numismatic representative is a numismatic expert that is passionate about the hobby and understands what makes The Coin Vault family a 35+ year success story!

“Our access to a selection of unique products is what really makes us stand out,” Leah stated. “In working with one of our representatives, you get personalized assistance that is tailored to your needs and preferences. Those relationships are nurtured and respected and prove to be an advantage as their guidance on your collection and the ability to identify items that hold greater rarity remains a priority.”

The Coin Vault’s PCD Acquisition Team continues to thrive in this hobby, ebbing and flowing with the constantly changing numismatic market. While providing an alternative sales channel for The Coin Vault, its addition to the SilverTowne family in most recent years has proven to be incredibly successful for the overall business, especially in its 75th anniversary year.

“SilverTowne’s 75-year milestone reflects our strong reputation for quality products, reliable services, and integrity in our operations,” Leah said. “This demonstrates our ability to adapt to change and meet customer needs over time.”
