The coin portrays a kangaroo looking over its shoulder. The background and other artistic elements, including representations of a eucalyptus tree and grass trees, are gilded in 24-carat gold. Inscriptions within the gilded area include ‘KANGAROO’ and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark. The obverse of the coin bears The Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Obverse, featuring the Jody Clark effigy supplemented with the dates of her reign, and the monetary denomination.
