The 1923 Philadelphia $20 coin is generally considered common, but finding pieces graded MS64 is notably more challenging than those with lower grades. True Gems, graded MS65 or higher, are rare. Most of these coins have a pleasant luster and are well-struck, although a few may show weaknesses around the Capitol building area This particular year only has 566,000 coins minted.

On the obverse side of the coin, Liberty is depicted standing on a rock, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The word "LIBERTY" is at the top surrounded by stars, and the date is stamped on the right side above the rock. The reverse side features a crescent sun at the bottom, appearing as if rising on the horizon with long rays extending to the top of the coin. A flying eagle covers the central portion, positioned atop the rays. The words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "TWENTY DOLLARS" are on the top periphery.
