SilverTowne Employee Profile Series: Val G.

Val G., Painter/Enameler

Having just surpassed her year and a half mark, Val has already found herself contributing to more than one area of the business. Starting out in the call center as a SilverTowne customer service representative, she now has settled into her recent role as one of our enamelers for our silver bullion collection. As her schedule gets busier the later we get into the year with the holiday season approaching, she seems to be hitting her stride and looks forward to what the future brings.

Beginning Job Title: “I started in the call center as a customer service representative in late February of 2021. I really loved my job there and I got to know some of my customers pretty well. Some I would even send Christmas cards to or get cards from. Others would write me letters and tell me how they appreciated everything I did. That was the first time I had ever really experienced anything like that at a job. It was pretty special.”

Current Job Title: “I paint/enamel silver bullion. They already had someone doing that but they decided to hire another person in addition to her and they offered the position to me. I feel very excited to be doing it because I enjoy doing that kind of thing outside of work.”

Favorite Part of Her Job: “Like I said, outside of work I paint and do arts and crafts so it is right up my alley. To be honest, I like that I don’t have a phone or a computer anymore. I just sit quietly and paint and I really enjoy it.”

Biggest Surprise About the Business: “The reasons people invest in silver I think is the biggest thing that surprised me. More specifically, the different types of investors and everything that goes into the decision making when it comes to buying it. I talked to a lot of people with a wide range of motivation for purchasing precious metals and I guess I didn’t realize there were that many distinctions.”

Reflection On the Company: “I love this company. I’ve lived here my whole life and I knew what it was like to have a business like this in the area but it became even bigger in my eyes when I started here. It is family owned and operated and that formula they figured out 70+ years ago still works today; you can feel it. I’m more relaxed and myself, especially at my new position and I just get along with the people. One of my favorite things to do when I worked in the call center and I would get a new customer is I would give them the background before anything. I even read the book [Rare Coins, Rare People] because I wanted a better understanding of how it was and to really immerse myself into the company. I really love this place and it's helped me personally in a lot of ways. Like I said I grew up here, it’s my home. This company feels like it, too.”

What She Looks Forward To: “I look forward to continuing to paint silver bullion. I plan to retire from SilverTowne and I can’t think of a better way to get there than painting silver along with Shawnda. I look forward to spending my free time with my family making memories as well as with my co-workers!”

Outside Of Work: “I like arts and crafts—diamond painting and canvas painting, etc. I also get to enjoy my kids, Matthew and Liz. They are the most amazing kids I could ever have asked for.”

Favorite Period Of Music: “I am a huge fan of the 80’s. I also like hip hop, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, etc. I really do like everything. One minute I could be listening to Jason Aldean, the next it could be Post Malone. I like a wide variety.”
