1997 United States Mint Set – Low-Mintage Issue from Philadelphia & Denver
The 1997 United States Mint Set includes uncirculated examples of every circulating denomination produced by the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. Presented in its Original Government Packaging (OGP), this set continues the durable folder-style design introduced in the mid-1990s. The official mintage for the 1997 Mint Set was just 950,473 sets, making it one of the lowest-mintage Uncirculated Mint Sets of the modern era—especially when compared to issues from 1964 through 1996.
Inside the set, collectors will find uncirculated Lincoln Cents, Jefferson Nickels, Roosevelt Dimes, Washington Quarters, and 1997 Kennedy Half Dollars from both mints. As with other years of the decade, no circulating dollar coin was issued in 1997, giving the set its standard five-coin-per-mint configuration. Each coin is sealed in the Mint’s protective cellophane, preserving bright uncirculated luster and clean strike detail.
With its notably low mintage, clean presentation, and position just before the launch of the Statehood Quarter Program, the 1997 Mint Set has become a desirable addition for collectors completing a 1990s run or building a full Mint Set timeline. Its scarcity compared to surrounding years adds long-term appeal for modern-series enthusiasts.
