1968 United States Mint Set – Uncirculated Coins from Philadelphia, Denver & San Francisco
The 1968 United States Mint Set marks the return of traditional Mint Set production following the Special Mint Set program of 1965–1967. This set includes uncirculated examples of every circulating coin struck by the Philadelphia, Denver, and—for the first time in regular Mint Sets—the San Francisco Mint, which began issuing coins with an “S” mintmark on certain denominations in 1968. Presented in its Original Government Packaging (OGP), the set reflects the Mint’s renewed commitment to providing collectors with high-quality uncirculated strikes. The official mintage for the 1968 Mint Set was 2,105,128 sets.
This release includes the Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, and the 1968 Kennedy Half Dollar from both Philadelphia and Denver, as well as an “S” mintmark Lincoln Cent and Jefferson Nickel from San Francisco. Collectors value the 1968 set for its reintroduction of multi-mint representation and for marking the first year the San Francisco Mint returned to regular coinage after years of focusing on Proof production and facility transitions.
The packaging consists of separate cellophane panels for each mint, allowing collectors to easily view luster, strike quality, and mintmark differences. As the first traditional Mint Set issued after the SMS era, the 1968 Mint Set represents an important restart point for modern U.S. collector coinage and remains a key addition for anyone assembling a run of late-1960s or early-1970s Mint Sets.
