Second Amendment Silver Round

Throughout recent history, the language of the second amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America has been interpreted differently by different people. But there is no denying its importance in helping to shape this great nation. Without the right to bear arms, Minutemen would have had a much more difficult time supporting American forces during the Revolutionary War.

Making up about one-fourth of the entire militia, minutemen were among the first people to fight in the American Revolutionary War. The term minutemen comes from the fact that these men were able to respond immediately, with little notice, to war threats. The well-prepared, rapidly deployable, minutemen forces allowed the early colonies to respond quickly as needed. Perhaps the most well-known minuteman was Paul Revere, who famously rode through the streets spreading the news that ‘the British were coming’ out from Boston.

The majority of Colonial minutemen units were not provided with arms or uniforms - they were required to equip themselves with their own weapons and clothing. Many just wore their own farming, hunting or work clothes. Although rifles were sometimes used when available, more often fowling pieces were used. A fowling piece is a small shotgun used for short-range hunting of birds, or wildfowl. Neither the fowling pieces nor the rifles had bayonets, making the job of fighting off the well-equipped British even tougher for the minutemen.

The brand new 2nd Amendment 1oz .999 Silver Medallion pays homage to the importance of this amendment in the foundation of the United States of America, while at the same time acknowledging the role of the minutemen in winning the country’s independence.

The obverse of the medallion depicts a minuteman raising, aiming and firing his rifle. Arcing around the top of the minuteman are thirteen stars representing the original thirteen colonies. The language of the second amendment is inscribed around the outside of the obverse. Also inscribed on the front of the medallion is 1791, the year the ratification of the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution was completed, forming The Bill of Rights.

Featured on the reverse is an American Bald Eagle, gazing proudly from behind a depiction of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the United States of America. Around the top of the eagle are 21 rays representing a 21-gun salute, and around the bottom are two olive branches. Inscriptions include .999 FINE SILVER and ONE TROY OUNCE.
