These coins are most commonly referred to as Mercury Dimes but are also officially known as Winged Liberty Head dimes. Produced from 1916 to 1945, the Mercury dime is a representation of Liberty, the wings crowning her cap are intended to symbolize liberty of thought. The designer's monogram AW is to the right of the neck.
