The Silver American Eagle is one of the most popular bullion coins in the world, and for good reason. The weight (31.101 grams), content (1 troy ounce of silver) and purity (99.9% pure) of every Silver Eagle coin is guaranteed by the US Government. Each coin features a reeded edge and is legal tender with a face value of $1 (which of course is largely symbolic as the real value of the coin is in the silver content). Since 1986, the US Mint has produced American Eagle Silver Coins in both proof and bullion finishes (with the exception of 2009 when no proof was made). Silver American Eagles are exceptional coins for collectors, as well as for investors wanting to add silver to their investment portfolio. Non-Certified Silver Eagles (also known as raw) have not been graded or certified by a third-party, but are otherwise the same as Certified Silver American Eagles.
