Silver Australian World Coins & Bullion

Australian Mints

There are two prominent mints in Australia. The Royal Australian Mint, tasked with producing all circulation coins within the country, and the Perth Mint, best known for their collectible investment-grade bullion series.

The Royal Australian Mint (RAM)

The Royal Australian Mint was opened by Prince Philip in 1965 with their first project being the creation of decimal currency. The primary purpose of the RAM is to produce Australia's legal-tender circulation coins; however, they also strike medals for military/civilian honors, tokens for commercial businesses, and they eve produced medals for the 2000 Summer Olympics alongside the Perth Mint.

The Perth Mint (PM)

The Perth Mint was first opened in June 1899 by the Royal Mint of London in response to a discovery of vast amounts of gold in Coolgardie and Kalgorrlie. However it was not the first Royal Mint branch to be opened in Australia; in fact, it was the third. From 1899-1931, the Perth Mint struck over 106 million gold sovereigns and close to 735,000 half sovereigns to be used throughout Australia and the British Empire. The mint remained under Britain's jurisdiction until July 1970 and is still going strong today as the oldest operating mint in the entire South Pacific.
