Indian Head Cents

US Cent Coins (small cents) are a great reflection of US history, making them fun to seek out and collect. Designed by James B. Longacre, Indian Head Cents (also known as Indian Pennies) were struck from 1859-1909. Indian Head Cents actually depict a representation of Liberty wearing an Indian headdress, rather than an actual Native American. These coins were popularly referred to as nickels or nicks prior to the release of nickel five-cent pieces. They were also later referred to as white cents.

The Lincoln Wheat Cent was originally issues to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. It was also the first cent coin to include the motto IN GOD WE TRUST.
