Last year, 2019, we saw a banner year of product releases from the United States Mint. Low mintages, first-evers, and brand new designs of coins and medals riddled the coin hobby. One of those first-evers was the release of 2019-W Quarters Dollars with the “W” mintmark on the obverse representing West Point. They were released into circulation, 10 million to be exact, among other circulated quarters dollars from both Philadelphia and Denver during National Coin Week to promote the Great American Coin Hunt.

“To Be Determined.” Those initials, TBD, have taken over the United States Mint’s production schedule during this difficult time. Release dates are up in the air and no one knows what will happen as we continue to weather this storm. But, as it is looking right now, there are two specific dates on their schedule that have not changed and are still on track to release the product. One of those is the 2020 Silver Proof Set in Original Government Packaging.

“Ideas are a dime a dozen.” “It isn’t worth a dime if….” Who knew the ten-cent piece was so utilized to make a point? To get to our point, dimes have been around for a significant amount of time. Disme, draped bust, seated liberty, winged liberty head (or Mercury), Roosevelt. All of these make up the history that is the ten-cent piece. But we are missing one crucial one: the Barber dime.
