Treasures of the United States: Idaho

Idaho is known as the land of rugged beauty and millions of acres of wilderness. With a landscape that ranges from subalpine to desert, lakes, and waterfalls to canyons and gorges, Idaho is a study in geographic diversity. Hell’s Canyon, at 7,900 feet, is the deepest canyon in North America, deeper even than the Grand Canyon. And the Shoshone Falls on the Snake River are higher than Niagara Falls.

The name ‘Idaho’ was first presented to Congress by mining lobbyist George M. Willing. He told Congress that Idaho was a Shoshone Indian word that meant “Gem of the Mountains.” This turned out to be false but the name Idaho had become commonly used and was eventually bestowed upon the state.

Idaho is still known as the Gem State today and has a long history of producing a variety of gem materials. One of the most important gems produced to date has been opal, one of the most spectacular gemstones. A single stone can flash every color of the spectrum with an intensity and quality of color that can surpass the “fire” of a diamond. The best opals can command prices per carat that rival expensive diamonds, rubies, and emeralds. This is why opal is one of the world’s most popular gems.

With a tiny mintage of just 500, this 1 troy ounce .999 fine silver coin features the patented "moving parts within a coin" technology, embedded within the silver coin is Opal, visible through a transparent capsule. This Treasures of the United States coin is struck in Proof quality and bears a denomination of $10 Legally authorized by the Mesa Grande Sovereign Nation.

Each Treasures of the United States Coin will arrive in the original protective plastic capsule in a black presentation/gift box along with a certificate of authenticity and an informational brochure.
