American Buffalo Gold Coins

.9999 Gold Buffalos

American Gold Buffalo Coins are the first ever .9999 (24kt.) gold coins produced by the United States Mint. Production of the 1 oz coins began in 2006 and they were an instant success! In fact, the 1 oz coins were so well received that in 2008 the mint decided to offer the design in half ounce, fourth ounce, and tenth ounce denominations as well.

Each American Buffalo Gold Coin is struck in 24 karat gold with a guarantee in weight, content, and purity by the US Government.

More About the Gold Buffalo

Designed to commemorate the famous Buffalo Nickel (1913-1938), the obverse of the gold coin depicts the renowned Indian Head design created by James Earle Fraser. The image conceived was actually forged by combining images of three separate Native American Chiefs, Two Moons of the Cheyenne Tribe, Iron Tail of the Lakota Tribe, and John Big Tree of the Seneca Tribe. The reverse shows the time-honored design modeled after the famous 1,550 pound bison housed in the New York City Central Park Zoo during the early 1900s, Black Diamond. Included on every coin is also an inscription depicting the weight, purity, and denomination of the gold piece.
