Today is the day that we say ‘Happy Birthday!’ to the United States Marine Corps.
Every 10th of November, a celebration ensues across the country for the Marines as they honor the values, memory, and history of the heroes that served within the Marine Corps. The day itself brings together generations of veterans to bond and celebrate the Marine Corps and their service to the nation. Every year across the United States, military balls are held and cake cutting ceremonies are put on in addition to battle reenactments, sports events, and musical performances.
On this date in 1775, the Second Continental Congress was able to raise two battalions of Marines to which Samuel Nicholas was named a captain of the Continental Marines. The duties of this newly formed group were to provide additional security and support to the newly formed Continental Navy. This brand would grow to just over 2,000 service members. They would ultimately play a heavy role in the Revolutionary War.
