France Napoleon Version III 20 Francs Date Our Choice
The French 20 Franc Napoleon III gold coins had three different designs during their production from 1852-1870.
Version I features a bust portrait of Napoleon on the obverse and the reverse shows the value of the coin, 20 Franc, and the date, 1852, surrounded by wreaths.
Version II is very similar to Version I but the name of the ruler is written on the obverse and says 'NAPOLEON III' along with the title 'EMPEREUR' and on the reverse the nation is referred to as 'EMPIRE FRANCAIS' instead of 'REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE'.
Version III (depicted in the images) emerged in 1861 and features a coat of arms and a wreath-wearing Napoleon III.
