At the 2012 FUN Convention, SilverTowne made quite a splash by being the only dealer to receive the 2012 Silver American Eagles from the U.S. Mint at the show. Here’s the story from an article published in CoinWorld:

"The newest products of the U.S. Mint made a late arrival at the convention but still sold briskly. Shortly after 4 p.m. Jan. 7, two carts — each loaded with 20,000 2012 American Eagle 1-ounce silver bullion coins — were wheeled to SilverTowne’s booth on the bourse floor. The Winchester, Ind., numismatic firm was the only company to receive the silver American Eagles at the show. The silver bullion coins, all struck at the West Point Mint, were contained in 80 plastic-strapped, 500-coin boxes. Each box contained 25 nylon-plastic tubes with 20 coins in each tube.

SilverTowne’s Tony Abel said most of the coins had been pre-sold during the show. Although SilverTowne offered some of the 40,000 coins received as singles directly to customers, most were acquired by customers in multiple rolls and boxes. Abel said it took the firm less than two hours from the time of receiving the coins Jan. 7 to sell all 40,000 coins. The coins were from among 3,197,000 that the U.S. Mint’s authorized purchasers placed orders for on Jan. 3 for distribution to secondary market dealers and the public, and were made available for pick up by the authorized purchasers Jan. 6. SilverTowne is a secondary market distributor for American Eagle bullion coins."

SilverTowne is expecting to receive the 2013 Silver Eagles during the FUN show in January as well.

Florida United Numismatists

Florida United Numismatists, Inc. is an organization dedicated to involving and growing the numismatic community both in Florida and throughout the world. Some of the main goals of FUN are:

- To advance the knowledge of numismatics along educational, historical, and scientific lines.
- To promote greater popular interest in numismatics.
- To bring numismatists into friendly relationships with one another.

One of the ways they accomplish these goals is through the annual FUN Convention. According to the FUN website, the theme for the 2013 Convention is "Buffalo and Hobos - A Centennial Celebration". 2013 marks the 100th Anniversary of the first striking of the very popular Buffalo Nickel. Soon after this initial striking, homeless artisans sometimes called "hobos", began carving intricate designs on some of these Buffalo Nickels. These items became known to collectors as "Hobo Nickels".

The convention is free to the public and in addition to the dealer exhibits you can also take advantage of educational programs for experienced, beginner and young numismatists, educational exhibits, meeting rooms for member clubs, and awards presentations. We hope to see you at the show! (You’ll find the SilverTowne booth at tables #823, 825, 922 & 924.) Click here for more information on the 2013 FUN Convention.
