United States Proof Sets

Proof Sets feature special coins that are manufactured by the US Mint utilizing the proof method of production. Proof coins are made specifically for presentation, souvenir, exhibition, or numismatic purposes. Proof coins can usually be distinguished by their sharpness, brilliant mirror-like surfaces and high-detail edgings. The coins included in Proof Sets vary by year and specific set. Special sets available include Premier Sets, Prestige Sets, Silver Proof Sets and sets featuring higher piece-counts than the typical 5 or 6 coins. No Proof coins were produced in 1965, 1966 or 1967 (however, Special Mint Sets were made available in those years as a substitute).
